🟥⬛️ DEPRESSION TIPS
We all have times when we just don’t feel right, things seem to weigh heavier than normal and we struggle to find the energy to perform everyday tasks.
You are not alone.
Depression is one of the most prevalent mental health disorders, affecting around 1 in 6 adults in the UK. It is also associated with other mental health issues, such as anxiety, stress and loneliness
Here are our top tips to tackling depression and on those days that feel simply too much, try to complete just one of two of these steps.
▪️ Shower. Not a bath…a shower. Use water as hot or cold as you like. You don’t even need to wash. Just get in under the water and let it run over you for a while. Sit on the floor if you need to.
▪️Moisturise. Use any lotion you like. Unscented? It doesn’t need to be fancy. Use whatever you want and use it all over your entire body. Self love helps us build feelings or positivity.
▪️Put on clean, comfortable clothes.
▪️Put on your favorite underwear. Cute black lacy panties? Those crazy boxers you bought last christmas with candy cane hearts on the bum….Put them on!
▪️Drink cold water. Use ice. If you want, add some mint or lemon for an extra boost. Hydration allows your body to function better and deal with your low mood
▪️Clean something. It doesn’t have to be anything big. Organize one desk drawer. Wash up a couple of dirty dishes. Do a wash load. Scrub the bathroom sink. By performing a little task that makes your living environment feel cleansed, your mind will also feel decluttered and reap the benefits
▪️Blast music. Listen to something upbeat, dancey and loud, something that’s got lots of energy. Sing to it, dance to it, even if you’re rubbish at both.
▪️Make food. Don’t just grab a protein bar. Take the time and make food. Even if it’s just a simple soul. Add something special to it, make it from scratch if you can. Prepare food, it tastes so much better and you’ll feel like you accomplished something.
▪️Make something. Write a short story or a poem, draw a picture, color a picture, fold origami, crochet or knit, sculpt something out of clay, anything artistic. Even if you don’t think you’re good at it. Create! It will focus your mind and allow you to forget your mental state for a short while.
▪️Go outside. Take a walk. Sit in the grass. Look at the clouds. Smell flowers. Put your hands in the dirt and feel the soil against your skin. Mother Nature offers boundless ways to support you and make you feel lighter and brighter
▪️Call someone. Call a loved one, a friend, a family member, call a chat service if you have no one else to call. Talk to a stranger on the street. Have a conversation and listen to someone’s voice. If you can’t bring yourself to call, text or email or whatever, just have some social interaction with another person. Even if you don’t say much, listen to them. It helps. (You can always call/text/message me!)
▪️Cuddle your pets if you have them/can cuddle them. Take pictures of them. Talk to them. Tell them how you feel, about your favourite movie, a new game coming out, anything.
May seem small or silly to some, but this list keeps people alive.
